APD Equipped with Carter Kits Sensory Bags
Published on April 01, 2025
April is Autism Awareness Month, and the Albany Police Department is proud to support individuals with autism and their families. We are dedicated to serving our entire community with empathy, respect, and care. Our officers undergo regular training to strengthen our awareness and response, ensuring the safety and well-being of those on the autism spectrum. This month and every month, we celebrate the diversity, resilience, and strength of our community.
To enhance our interactions with individuals on the autism spectrum, Albany Police Department (APD) officers will soon be equipped with Carter Kits™ Sensory Bags to assist when engaging those with autism and sensory processing challenges. These specialized kits contain practical tools designed to help de-escalate situations, facilitate communication, and improve officer interactions, ultimately leading to more positive outcomes. This month officers will undergo specialized training with Carter Kits™ to ensure the effective and lasting implementation of this initiative.
The Albany Police Department believes that by equipping our officers with Carter Kits™ Sensory Bags it will enhance our ability to better serve our community.
The Albany Police Department would like to remind Albany residents that information about crime and other police activity can be found on the Albany Crime Graphics portal at albany.crimegraphics.com. For questions, comments, or assistance with this site, please email albanypolice@albanyca.org.
