Albany Senior Center

The Albany Senior Center is a vibrant gathering place where active adults can connect, stay engaged, and participate in community life. Through a variety of programs, including social events, group activities, and educational classes, the center fosters a welcoming environment that encourages lifelong learning and meaningful connections. Whether participating in recreational activities, joining discussion groups, or enjoying a shared meal, active adults have ample opportunities to stay involved and build friendships in a supportive setting.

Beyond regular programs, the center hosts special events, celebrations, and outings that bring the community together in a fun and inclusive way. Fitness and wellness classes help promote healthy lifestyles, while creative workshops and cultural programs provide opportunities for self-expression and enrichment. With a strong emphasis on social engagement, the Albany Senior Center is a place where active adults can laugh, learn, and create lasting memories with their peers.

Albany Meals on Wheels 

Meals on Wheels are delivered four days a week to homebound seniors. The food is delivered hot and is equivalent to a third of the recommended daily allowance. Enrollment required. Suggested donation: $4.00 per meal.

Albany Tri City Café 

Make new friends and enjoy a delicious, well-balanced dinner provided Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12 pm. First come, first serve program. Call the Albany Senior Center at (510)524-9122 to reserve your spot. Suggested donation: $4 per meal. Under 60 years of age, the cost is $5.

Brown Bag Program 

Brown Bag distributions are on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month between9:30 am -10:30 am. Members must have transportation and be present to pick up their bag of groceries. Eligible residents must be 60 or older, and income eligible. All applicants must provide identification and proof of income at the time of registration. Membership must be renewed annually in July. Mercy Care Center's Brown Bag Program collects and distributes donated food to 1,500 income-eligible seniors twice a month at 12 sites in Alameda County. The Albany Senior Center is the designated site for the City of Albany.

The Albany Senior Center Community Shuttle takes adults age 50+ on walking tours and day trips, and provides regular, free door-to-door grocery shopping trips for Albany residents age 60+ Registration is required for all programs. The Albany Senior Center Community Shuttle is funded by Measure BB, administered by the Alameda County Transportation Commission.

All adults ages 50+ are welcome to travel with us as we explore beautiful and exciting areas and attractions around Northern California Hop aboard our bus and leave the planning to us Each trip is led by a group leader All trips include periods of walking, standing, sitting, admission and transportation, unless otherwise indicated Travel itineraries are subject to change. Register here

Door-to-Door Grocery Shopping Trips

The shuttle provides Albany residents 60 years and older door-to-door transportation from home to nearby grocery stores Funded by Measure BB.  All riders are asked to call the center at 1(510) 524-9122 the day before their shopping trip by 12 noon.  

Taxi Reimbursement Program

Using Measure BB funds, Albany Paratransit provides a taxi ride subsidy to Albany residents 70 years and over and people with disabilities 18 years and over for qualifying rides. Reimbursements are subject to approval process.

East Bay Paratransit (EBP)

EBP provides paratransit services for anyone who cannot use AC Transit or BART because of a disability You must become ADA certified to qualify for Paratransit Services Call 1(510) 287-5000 to make an appointment and get an application.

Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS)

Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS) provides free legal advice and representation, health insurance counseling, and community education to qualified Alameda County residents.

Technology One-on-One

Come ask questions about your devices with a one-on-one teaching session with a dedicated staff member. This is available Thursdays from 10am-2pm.

Book Library

A wide variety of donated books are available for purchase at just 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardcovers.
