After-school Program

The Friendship Club After School Program provides a safe, fun, and supportive space for children in grades K–5 to unwind, play, and connect after the school day ends.

Operated by the City of Albany, the program runs every school day from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. and serves different school sites at two park locations: students from Marin Elementary attend Friendship Club at Memorial Park, while students from Ocean View Elementary attend at Ocean View Park. Daily activities include outdoor play, crafts, games, homework help, and enrichment, all led by trained recreation staff.

Friendship Club emphasizes friendship-building, creativity, and social-emotional growth in a relaxed, community-centered setting

Daily Operations

Cornell and Marin students attend the Friendship Club at Memorial Park (1331 Portland Avenue), where they enjoy access to two classrooms, a gated outdoor patio, a play structure, tennis courts, and a large field. Ocean View students attend the site at Ocean View Park (900 Buchanan Street), with access to two classrooms, a baseball field, tennis/pickleball courts, a play structure, and the redwood grove.

Friendship Club staff pick up children directly from their elementary schools. Once all students are checked in, they walk together to either Ocean View Park or Memorial Park to begin their afternoon of fun. Both sites are within walking distance of Albany’s elementary schools, and staff guide students safely along pre-planned walking routes.
