Community Preparedness and Resiliency
Community preparedness and resiliency are essential to keeping Albany residents safe during natural disasters and emergencies. Due to its location, Albany is vulnerable to a range of hazards, including earthquakes, severe storms, and both natural and human-caused wildfires. In response, the City's first responders and local agencies have developed comprehensive emergency preparedness plans and public education programs to help residents understand how to respond in a crisis.
Public outreach efforts—such as disaster preparedness workshops, emergency drills, and informational materials—raise awareness and ensure the community is ready to act. The City also invests in resilient infrastructure, including retrofitting older buildings and maintaining reliable communication systems, to better protect the community.
Resiliency in Albany also includes strengthening social networks and fostering cooperation among neighbors, community groups, and local leaders. These support systems are especially important in helping vulnerable populations, such as seniors and individuals with disabilities, during and after emergencies.
Through proactive planning, education, and collaboration, Albany is building a strong foundation for both immediate response and long-term recovery—positioning the city to face future challenges with resilience and unity.
