Transportation

The Transportation Division is responsible for the traffic operations in the city, the pedestrian and bicycle system, regional transportation activities and other transportation related projects. The Transportation Division also provides staff support for the Transportation Commission. The Albany Active Transportation Plan guides future bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects.

City staff actively work with Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC), the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and Caltrans. These agencies, either through competitive grants or formula funding, make it possible for the City to implement many of our priority transportation projects.

The City of Albany supports waling, biking, and rolling. Projects, policies, and programs are guided by the Albany Active Transportation Plan. The City also follows a Complete Streets policy to balance all users in roadway design, including active transportation, transit, and motor vehicles. Other programs include intersection red curb, or daylighting, Safe Routes to Schools programs, and installation of bicycle parking.

The city evaluates requests for on-street accessible spaces (blue curbs) and driveway red curbs as established by City policy. Go to Blue Curb Procedures or Red Curb Procedures for additional information and application forms.
